Lab Technician and Photographer Jailed for Issuing Fake COVID-19 Tests in Morocco

The court of first instance in Fez has sentenced a lab technician and a photographer to three months in prison. One of them was arrested in Meknes in flagrante delicto for issuing fake anti-Covid tests.

The arrest of the lab technician and the photographer took place on September 9th. The police at Fez airport had just intercepted three travelers from the same family who were about to board a flight to France in possession of fake PCR tests. These travelers had told the police that they had obtained these documents from a lab technician and a photographer in exchange for a sum of money.

A policewoman made contact with the lab technician. The latter issued her a fake PCR test in exchange for money and was arrested in the act. Subsequently, the police apprehended his accomplice. During a search of his home, they seized several equipment that would have been used in the falsification of anti-Covid-19 tests. The investigators learned that the two defendants were issuing these fake tests for 600 DH each.

Prosecuted for falsifying anti-Covid PCR tests, the two defendants appeared before the court of first instance in Fez. They both received a sentence of three months in prison and a fine of 1,000 DH.
