Morocco Arrests Six in Ongoing Crackdown on Fake COVID-19 Test Trafficking

The traffic in fake health documents continues in Morocco. Between September 25 and early October, six people were arrested for trafficking in fake Covid tests and smuggling pharmaceutical products.
Three individuals were arrested in flagrante delicto, after presenting fake PCR tests, and the other three were arrested as part of judicial investigations into the trafficking of fake Covid tests and the smuggling of medical equipment and pharmaceutical products. The searches carried out by the police officers at the homes of these suspects, made it possible to seize three fake health certificates and 20 fake Covid tests.

In total, the national security services have dealt with 176 similar cases since the entry into force of the state of health emergency and arrested 341 people accused of trafficking in fake health and passport certificates (317 people), trafficking in fake PCR tests (20 people), and fraud in order to obtain a health passport (4 people).

The security services, in collaboration with the competent health authorities, will have to further strengthen border control measures as well as search and investigation procedures in order to ensure better health security for all Moroccans.
