Morocco Cracks Down on Fake COVID Documents at Airports, Arrests Tourists
Monday 30 August 2021, by
For the past few days, Morocco has been hunting down fake PCR tests and fake health passes. Several operations have thus been carried out in different airports of the kingdom and have resulted in the arrest of several French and British tourists and the dismantling of several networks.
Following the discovery of fake PCR tests and fake health passports among many travelers who were about to board, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has instructed its services at the airports to strengthen the checks on the validity of health documents related to Covid-19, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. At Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, Marrakech-Menara Airport, as well as other airport premises in the kingdom, the checks are now more stringent.
Several arrests have already been made. At Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, the security services arrested two individuals with a fake exceptional travel authorization and a falsified Covid-19 test to leave Morocco on a flight to Turkey. Agents from the National Security of Agadir-Al Massira airport also arrested last Saturday five British tourists belonging to the same family, who were about to board for England, with fake PCR tests.
In Oujda, the police services arrested six individuals, including two doctors and a repeat offender, all suspected of belonging to a network of falsification of Covid tests. During the search of the home of one of the accused, the investigators seized dozens of fake PCR tests ready to be handed over to "clients", as well as an amount estimated at more than 870,000 dirhams.
