Spanish Police Arrest 3 Moroccan Women Smuggling Baby and Cash into Melilla

Three women of Moroccan origin were arrested by the Spanish police in Melilla. A routine check revealed the illegal entry of a baby with a French passport into Spain, with more than 11,000 euros hidden in its diapers.

According to the police statement, the three Moroccan women were apprehended as they were trying to board a ferry to Almeria. While one of the women claimed to be the mother of the less than one-year-old baby accompanying her, she will be caught out during the verification of the information provided.

Indeed, the police elements realize that in addition to the Moroccan passport of the woman, which did not suffer from any irregularity, the other documents presented were those of another minor of at least three years old.

Moreover, its characteristics did not at all correspond to those appearing on the child’s documents; nothing proved that she was the mother as she claimed.

However, she will be supported by her two accomplices. They claimed that the child’s mother was none other than the sister of one of them, claiming that their goal was to go to Spain to "have a better life".

In the absence of reliable documents and, faced with the inability to confirm the real situation of the baby, as well as its parents, the police decided to place it in a child protection center in Melilla, pending shedding light on this case.

In addition, during this check, the police discovered the sum of 11,210 euros hidden in the baby’s diapers. The three Moroccan women were arrested and prosecuted for "crime against the rights of foreign citizens and counterfeiting", the same source specifies.
