Twelve months in prison for the offense of abandoning minors. This is the sentence that has just been imposed on two Moroccan women for having abandoned their children in front of the reception center in Melilla.
In a press release, the headquarters of the Superior Police of Melilla indicates that the two women had been arrested last Saturday by local police for a presumed offense of abandoning minors.
The day after their arrest, the 2nd Court of Instruction of Melilla ruled on the case of these women. They were each sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Six Moroccan citizens have been arrested in recent days in Melilla for the offense of abandoning children.
More than a thousand unaccompanied foreign minors, mostly from Morocco, are staying in the Melilla centers. This situation is a source of friction between the local government and the Moroccan authorities.
