Morocco Launches Probe into Counterfeit Driving Licenses After Spanish Seizure

Saturday 12 October 2019, by Bladi.net

The Spanish authorities have seized fake Moroccan driving licenses issued by the former State Secretariat for Transport. This news has mobilized the security services, including the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), in Rabat, and an investigation has been opened.

The security cooperation between Morocco and Spain has allowed Spanish police to seize about thirty fake Moroccan driving licenses, from the former State Secretariat for Transport. According to Al Massae, these counterfeiters were arrested in Spain.

In Morocco, the authorities are working to determine the origin of these fake documents. According to the same media, the first elements of the investigation indicate that the arrested persons were able to obtain these documents without having taken the tests and examinations proving that they were ready to drive.

Moreover, according to the conclusions of the investigation, these driving licenses had been presented by their holders in Spain in order to exchange them for documents allowing them to circulate in this country.

The same source notes that the fake papers were dated earlier and corresponded to the period when the arrested persons were living in Morocco. "A way to make people believe they were authentic," supports the daily.

Furthermore, additional results from the judicial investigation have also revealed that these individuals had to pay a substantial amount of money to obtain them, more precisely between 2,500 and 3,000 euros each.
