Spanish Nationals Arrested in Morocco for Alleged Gold Trafficking Scheme

Two Spanish nationals were arrested on Friday by the police for their alleged involvement in a case of gold possession. The police believe that this gold comes from criminal activities.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) also indicates that this operation made it possible to apprehend two Moroccans while they were all four on board a vehicle registered abroad.
In total, 78 gold plates were seized, weighing a total of 11.7 kilos, which the traffickers intended to resell to "potential buyers," the DGSN statement said.
The precious metal has been transferred to the police scientific and technical laboratory for expertise, continues the DGSN, according to which an investigation has been opened to "determine the source of this quantity of gold and whether it comes from criminal acts, and to elucidate any possible criminal acts attributed to the four suspects".
