Senior Police Officer Arrested in Tanger-Med Port Human Trafficking Investigation

The prefectural service of the judicial police of Tangier launched a judicial investigation last Thursday, as part of the alleged involvement of a senior police officer, working at the port of Tanger Med, in facilitating an illegal immigration operation.
The press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) states that the national security elements operating in the Tanger-Med port area had aborted a clandestine immigration operation and arrested two individuals who were trying to cross by hiding in the lower part of an international transport truck.
However, a thorough investigation with these two individuals made it possible to identify the main suspect, the press release states, indicating that the investigations are ongoing for his arrest. From the explanations of the DGSN, it appears that a police officer is suspected of having facilitated the access of these two people inside the port and in the loading area.
The same source specifies that once suspended, the officer in question was taken into custody at the disposal of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to verify the criminal acts with which he is charged, while the search and investigations continue to arrest any persons involved in these criminal acts.
The press release recalls that this case is part of the constant efforts made by the DGSN services to fight against illegal immigration and moralize the public service provided by the National Security.
