Moroccan Police Seize Half-Ton of Cannabis at Tanger-Med Port

Half a ton of drugs, more precisely, cannabis resin (chira), was seized, on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, by the police services, at the Port of Tanger-Med, in northern Morocco. The shipments were on board two international transport trucks.
These two trucks were heading towards one of the European ports, indicates the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), in a press release published on its Twitter account. According to this document, the two operations led to the arrest of the two drivers, aged 35 and 47.
"A quantity of 227 kg of chira was found in the trailer of the first truck, while 260 kg were seized in that of the second truck," the press release specifies, adding that the operation was made possible thanks to coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The two drivers were placed in custody, as part of the investigation. It continues in an attempt to uncover other accomplices.
"This case is part of the intense security operations carried out by the security services, in order to fight against international drug and psychotropic trafficking," the DGSN also concludes.
