Spain: Two Moroccans die in a 6-meter car fall in Benassal

The Moroccan community in Spain is in mourning. On Saturday, a road accident occurred on the CV-166 road. As it was leaving Benassal with its five occupants, a car fell about 6 meters from the bridge of the Rambla Carbonera - km 32.08, on the territory of Ares, at 9:47 pm, reports the Mediterráneo website. The report states that two people died and three were seriously injured. According to the mayor of Benassal, Elia García, all the passengers in the vehicle were men, of Moroccan nationality, but residing in the region, one for a longer time, the others more recently.

Friends have declined to identify the two individuals who died on the spot. One of them, aged 37, lived in Benassal. As for the second, he lived in Morella. They were both cousins, originally from Morocco. Among the three injured is the driver of the accident vehicle, a man around 35 years old. The others who accompanied him are between 30 and 37 years old. "The latest medical report indicates that one of the three people hospitalized at La Plana and General would be out of danger; another remains in serious condition," added the mayor.

According to the CICU, two of the young people had multiple traumas and were transferred by two SAMU units to the General Hospital of Castellón. Another suffers from multiple traumas. He was admitted to the Hospital de La Plana by a Basic Care unit (SVB). The mayor, on behalf of the municipality and the entire village, expressed her deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. She also wished a speedy recovery to the survivors.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident that occurred on the CV-166. But the mayor of Benassal points to the state of this road. "We have a 4-kilometer stretch that urgently needs improvement. We have reported it several times, the last time at the end of 2024 in a claim note. In addition, the pavement is very slippery, especially when slightly wet, which is a danger," she warns.
