In Spain, an exceptional mobilization to repatriate a deceased Moroccan family
The Muslim community of Torrox, supported by the inhabitants of the city and other localities of Malaga, has managed to raise the necessary funds for the repatriation to Morocco of the bodies of the four people of the same family, who died on Tuesday due to a gas leak in the Axarquía region.
The representative of the Muslim community of Torrox, Ahmed El Garbouri, has thanked mainly "the members of the community of the region, but also of other communities of the Axarquía and Malaga" for this show of solidarity following this tragic accident that has shaken the entire region. El Garbouri stated that the amounts collected will cover the repatriation costs of the victims’ bodies to Morocco, renewing his thanks to the Torrox town hall and the inhabitants for their support.
The town hall has declared three days of official mourning, from Tuesday to Thursday, during which the flags have been flown at half-mast, and suspended all municipal activities, Europa Press reported.
The bodies of the Said Rabah family will be repatriated to Settat in Morocco, once the autopsy results are available, to be buried there with dignity. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday, November 25. The Andalusian emergency service was alerted to a possible gas leak on Pontil Street, in the city center, where several unconscious people were lying on the ground. Firefighters, the Civil Guard, the local police, and health services rushed to the scene, finding the lifeless bodies of two adults and two young people, including a minor.
Last Wednesday, an estimated 500 inhabitants of Torrox gathered in the Constitution Square to express their sadness and pay a final tribute to the family.
