Spain: Zahra, a Moroccan worker killed by her ex-partner in Huelva, will be repatriated to Morocco
The body of Zahra, a 47-year-old Moroccan seasonal worker, will be repatriated to Morocco in the coming days. She was found lifeless last Sunday in the agricultural farm of Moguer (Huelva) where she worked and resided, presumed victim of her ex-partner.
The agricultural company that employed her, Mazantine, announced that it would cover all the repatriation costs. This decision was welcomed with relief by the victim’s entourage, who had already launched a fundraiser to help the family. Zahra’s colleagues describe her as a "hardworking, discreet and very good colleague".
The victim, who had been working in the agricultural sector of Huelva since 2009, was found by her own 23-year-old daughter. Her body showed multiple stab wounds. The suspect, a 56-year-old man of Burkinabe nationality, was arrested by the Civil Guard a few hours after the incident.
The 34th victim of femicide in 2025 in Spain
The Government Delegation against Gender Violence confirmed on Monday the nature of the crime. Zahra is the 34th woman murdered in Spain in 2025 in this context, the 11th in Andalusia, and the 1,329th since the beginning of official statistics in 2003. Of the victims this year, 13 were of foreign nationality, including Moroccans.
The authorities indicated that no previous complaint of abuse had been filed by the victim. However, her daughter, who is currently being cared for by a psychological assistance unit, is said to have reported to the investigators that the ex-partner had threatened her mother a few days earlier, after learning that she was considering remarrying.
The emotion was strong in Moguer, where the mayor led a minute of silence on Tuesday, denouncing a "cowardly" act. He recalled that Zahra had lived in the municipality for 17 years and had recently brought her daughter there. Local and regional authorities expressed their "anger" and stressed that the fight against this scourge is "a task that must involve the whole of society".
