The heroic gesture of Ibrahim, this Moroccan who braved the flames to save two children
The tragedy was narrowly averted thanks to the courage of a single man. Last Monday, in the La Plata neighborhood of Seville, a violent fire broke out in a family home, trapping two young girls inside. Without the intervention of Ibrahim, a young Moroccan present at the scene, the outcome would have been fatal.
Listening only to his courage, the young man rushed into the smoke-filled house even before the firefighters arrived. "He didn’t look at the fire or anything. He went in and took the girls out," recounts the victims’ grandmother, still in shock. An act of bravery that left its mark: Ibrahim came out with burns on his hands, but managed to extract the two sisters safely from their room.
While lives have been saved, the material toll is heavy. The fire, probably caused by a brazier, has rendered the house completely uninhabitable. The couple and their three children now find themselves on the street, having to start over from scratch.
Faced with the distress of this family, solidarity is being organized. While criticism is raining down on the town hall, accused of offering only a "cold" and unsuitable shelter, the neighborhood has stepped in. WhatsApp groups, clothing and food drives: the residents of the neighborhood are making up for the shortcomings of the public services to support the victims and, in their own way, salute the heroism of Ibrahim.
