Schalke 04 Players’ Council Votes to Keep Moroccan Star Amine Harit on Team

Domenico Tedesco, the coach of Schalke 04, would have convened a players’ council to decide the fate of Moroccan international Amine Harit in the team. Verdict: the player stays. For now...
A players’ council convened at Tedesco’s request and composed of captain Ralf Fährmann, vice-captain Benjamin Stambouli, attacking player Guido Burgstaller and finally Daniel Caligiuri who plays in defense, made the decision to keep Amine Harit within Schalke04 while the coach himself was about to wave a red card. Another chance then for Harit to stay on the team, with which he is under contract until 2021.
Domenico Tedesco had called Amine Harit a few weeks ago to show more professionalism. "He must show that he is developing, that he has a certain maturity and that he is a professional," the young coach had said.
Indeed, his football skills are not called into question as Tedesco is extremely enthusiastic in this regard: "My greatest wish is that his talent be revealed. That’s what coaches want - and that’s what I want. But the player must also want it. And if one of the two parties doesn’t want it, then it will be difficult." It is rather his behavior off the pitch that is being pointed out.
Since the night of June 29 to 30 in Marrakech where he was involved in a road accident that cost the life of a security guard, Harit has not stopped making (negative) headlines: Late nights in casinos, late for training... During this difficult period, the Schalke 04 management had supported the Moroccan midfielder and given him time to get back on track.
Note that Harit was present during the S04-Fortuna Dusseldorf match last Wednesday, but had to resign himself to remaining on the bench.
