Royal Air Maroc adds 23% more seats, but MREs still pay just as much

The national airline has scheduled nearly 8.2 million seats for the summer season, an increase of 23% compared with summer 2025. Its network covers 86 international destinations and relies on a modernized fleet of 67 aircraft.

Europe accounts for more than three million seats, up 22%. Royal Air Maroc serves 44 European destinations, with a strengthened presence in the main countries where Moroccans living abroad reside.

In Africa, capacity exceeds 1.8 million seats, an increase of 36% in one year. The airline is also offering 723,000 seats to the Americas and more than 524,000 to Asia and the Middle East. The domestic network, for its part, is approaching 1.2 million seats.

Millions of seats, but the pressure remains

However, this massive increase in supply has not been enough to bring about a visible drop in fares at the height of summer. The concentration of departures and return journeys over a few weeks continues to exert strong pressure on the routes most used by MREs.

According to Air Journal, which compared several offers available for August, round-trip tickets between France and Morocco still regularly exceed 400 to 500 euros on certain routes and during the busiest periods.

More affordable fares remain available when travelers can change their dates. At the time of the survey, a Marseille–Agadir round trip could notably be found from 220 to 250 euros for certain weeks in August. On Toulouse–Marrakech, offers ranging from 150 to 180 euros were still available, particularly from low-cost airlines.

However, these introductory fares do not always include checked baggage, seat selection or other services charged separately. Royal Air Maroc is often more expensive on direct flights, but generally includes services sought by families traveling with several pieces of luggage.

The airline is also relying on the density of its network, connections via Casablanca and the absence of chartered aircraft. RAM says it can operate its entire summer schedule with its own aircraft, an organization intended to improve comfort, punctuality and service quality.

Despite 23% more seats, the main problem therefore remains unchanged for MREs obliged to travel during the school holidays: when everyone wants to leave or return during the same weeks, the cheapest tickets disappear quickly.
