Repeat Offender Arrested in Morocco for Impersonating Police Commissioner, Targeting Wealthy Women

The judicial police of Meknes in coordination with its counterpart in Rabat, proceeded to the arrest of a man and a woman who were wanted for theft, fraud and impersonation. The accused was placed, along with his accomplice, in pre-trial detention in the El Arjat prison in Salé.
In a statement, the DGSN indicated that the fake commissioner is a repeat offender known to the police for various offenses. He is in the habit of targeting wealthy women to steal their money and jewelry. According to the daily Al Akhbar, the fake commissioner would go to these women’s homes under the pretext of investigating a case of theft and currency counterfeiting. And it was during the "search" that he managed to steal the sums of money and jewelry they kept at home.
After his arrest, the accused was confronted with a dozen of his victims who recognized him and testified to the way he had proceeded to steal their property. He presented himself as a senior police officer or Interior Ministry official. He was always well dressed and equipped with a walkie-talkie, putting himself above all suspicion.
Once the stolen goods were taken, he handed them over to fences, in the city of Fez, with the help of his accomplice. The fake commissioner had been arrested two years ago for a similar case. For this time, he risks a lot for qualified theft with recidivism and usurpation of the capacity of a person holding public authority.
