Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz Absent from Morocco Squad as National Team Decision Looms
Brahim Diaz is not on the list of 25 Moroccan players called up by Walid Regragui for the matches against Eritrea and Tanzania. Even though the player still interests Morocco, he must be "100% convinced" of his choice before being called up to the Moroccan national team, the coach explained.
The list published on Thursday by Walid Regragui reveals the absence of Brahim Diaz. Explaining his decision not to call up the Real Madrid player for these two matches, Regragui said that Diaz "has not yet made his decision".
"He is a player who has interested us for a long time. And of course, he still interests us," the Moroccan coach reiterated in a press conference, assuring that Diaz will be called up if he is "convinced" that he wants to play for Morocco. "If we know he is ready, we will call him up. Otherwise, it won’t happen," he insisted.
What is certain is that even if Brahim Diaz chooses to play for Morocco, he will not play in the next Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire. The midfielder has already announced that he wants to "help" his team, Real Madrid, to perform well this season.
Brahim had a good game on Wednesday against Braga. As a starter, he scored two goals, one of which was disallowed. The young player was very offensive and defensive and won most of his duels. A performance that did not leave Carlo Ancelotti indifferent, who could give him more playing time in the next Real Madrid matches.
