Real Estate Scammer Arrested in Morocco for Selling Nonexistent Land

The elements of the judicial police of the provincial security district in Mehdia, on May 20, arrested a man who was the subject of a series of arrest warrants for fraud, identity theft and sale of fictitious land.

The man arrested by the police would be involved in numerous land sales operations to people who thought they had made the deal of their lives. But these lands do not exist and the individual pocketed large sums of money from his victims.

His modus operandi is to use false identities in order to gain the trust of his victims before stripping them of large sums of money in exchange for the promise of allocating them a plot of land with a land title, explains the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release. Once the amounts were collected, the man disappeared without a trace.

Informed, the elements of the Mehdia police realized that the alleged scammer is a repeat offender who is the subject of several arrest warrants at the national level, issued by the judicial police and the royal gendarmerie services in the cities of Kénitra, Témara, Khemisset and Meknès. These include issuing bad checks and stealing cars. The research and investigations carried out made it possible to arrest him.

Placed in custody, the suspect was made available for the investigation, in order to determine whether he acted alone or with accomplices and to identify all the facts with which he is charged.
