Rabat Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions Despite Low Case Numbers

Even though the city of Rabat is not severely affected by the recent surge in infection cases, the authorities are keeping a close eye. They are taking very restrictive measures to maintain the stability of the epidemiological situation.

Since August 20, the number of reported infection cases recorded in Rabat is 16 per day. This is the main reason why the authorities have deemed it necessary to strengthen preventive measures and carry out an awareness and control campaign on compliance with health measures throughout the city. Movements are also subject to regular and strict control.

Without any prior announcement, police checkpoints have been set up on Hassan II Avenue, Ennakhil Avenue in Hay Riad. Checkpoints are also found on the coastal road and up to Ennasr Avenue, as well as at some large stores like Marjane and Al Manal near Hay el Fath.

Access to shopping centers is done upon presentation of an identity document. Residents do not understand why the authorities have taken such security measures without informing them through various communication channels. Even if they understand that the purpose is to protect them, they would have liked not to be confronted with a fait accompli.
