Marrakech Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions as Cases Surge and ICU Admissions Rise

The number of infections in Marrakech continues to increase, as does the number of deaths and people admitted to intensive care and resuscitation units. The local authorities have strengthened the existing measures in order to effectively deal with the deterioration of the epidemiological situation.
These measures, according to the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region, are divided into two main categories. There are some of a general nature that cover "the entire territorial jurisdiction of the prefecture" and others are "specific to certain urban areas" such as Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, Hay Hassani, Hay Mohammadi, M’hamid, Menara, Jemaa Fna and Kechich.
The measures intended for these areas are "the intensification of control operations, the partial or total closure of certain neighborhoods to curb the spread of Covid-19". Cafes and restaurants are also required to close at 10 p.m. Control operations will be regularly organized within "industrial and professional units to ensure their compliance with the preventive measures in force".
The general measures focus on intensive awareness-raising operations on the consequences of laxity in complying with preventive measures. This also involves "intensifying disinfection and sterilization operations, intensifying control of movements at the entrances to the city and between neighborhoods. It also involves taking legal measures firmly against offenders".
