COVID-19 Surge Prompts Extended Emergency Measures in Mohammédia, Morocco

Faced with the increase in coronavirus infection cases in Mohammédia, the local authorities have extended the state of emergency for one week. New restrictive measures have been taken.
The local authorities have extended the state of emergency until October 5th in Hay Al Houria in the commune of Mohammédia and Dyar Al Alia in the commune of Beni Khlaf, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. The control commission explains that the local authorities have taken this decision in order to better manage the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic. The epidemiological situation is critical in Mohammédia with nearly 300 cases recorded in one week.
New restrictive measures have been taken as part of the extension of the state of emergency. These include the ban on gatherings in public places and spaces and the closure of businesses, snacks, restaurants and large stores at 10 p.m., the ban on access to the city, and movements within the city. Also, the maximum capacity of public transport (buses and taxis) has been reduced by 50%.
