Rabat Ranks as Morocco’s First ’Smart City’ in Global Index

The city of Rabat manages to position itself in the 2020 ranking of the world’s smartest cities. It occupies the 105th place with the mention "D".
It is the only Moroccan city that has been able to stand out. The others such as Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech still have to work to be up to the challenge of digitization. The IMD index takes into account the criteria of health, safety, mobility, activities, opportunities and governance. A "smart city" is an urban environment that uses technology to facilitate the lives of its citizens.
According to the ranking, the city of Singapore is the smartest city in the world, followed by Helsinki and Zurich. In the top 10 smartest cities in the world there are also Auckland, Oslo, Copenhagen, Taipei City, Amsterdam and New York. In the MENA region, Abu Dhabi is the leading Arab smart city, followed by Dubai and Riyadh.
