Rabat’s Game-Changing Rail Hub: Revolutionizing Transport for AFCON 2024
A new major rail infrastructure is about to be unveiled in Rabat. The capital will soon be equipped with a third-generation train station, strategically positioned to serve a key district and support the upcoming major sporting events.
Located in the Riyad district, in the immediate vicinity of the Moulay Abdellah sports complex, this station will accommodate both the high-speed train (TGV) and the new regional trains (RER). According to information reported by the media Rue20, its inauguration is scheduled for the end of next November.
This deadline coincides with the reception by the National Railway Office (ONCF) of the new RER trains at the beginning of November. The commissioning of the station aims to facilitate the transportation of supporters during the next Africa Cup of Nations, by providing direct access to the capital’s main stadium.
The new station is described as being equipped with modern facilities, multiple tracks, and multiple access points. It will efficiently connect the Riyad district, the sports complex, the bus station, and the Al Manal district.
