Police Bust Major Drug Trafficking Operation in Laâyoune, Seize Over 1 Ton of Narcotics

An attempt at international drug and psychotropic trafficking was thwarted by the police in Laâyoune. The operation led to the arrest of a repeat offender aged 28, wanted at the national level for cases of violent theft and for his alleged involvement in this new case.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) specifies in a press release that the investigations carried out as part of this case made it possible to intercept and arrest the accused on board a 4x4 with falsified license plates, in a desert area belonging to the rural commune "El Hagounia" 20 km northeast of Laâyoune.
Furthermore, a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 37 drug bales, containing 1 ton 21 kg of Chira. This led to the arrest of the suspect, who was placed in custody for the judicial investigation led under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office to elucidate the ins and outs of this case. This same investigation will make it possible to determine his possible links with international drug trafficking networks and to arrest all the accomplices in these criminal acts, adds the DGSN.
Through these security operations, the services of the DGSN and the DGST intend to fight against various transnational crimes, in particular international drug and psychotropic trafficking, indicates the same source.
