Olympic Champion El Bakkali Recovering After Paris Track Accident

The image of Soufiane El Bakkali on the ground, complaining of pain, and evacuated from the track on a stretcher, had somewhat worried the athlete’s fans. But according to the latest news, there was more fear than harm.
The Moroccan Olympic champion fell last Saturday, at the level of the first hurdle, during the Paris meeting, violently hitting the obstacle with his knee. Many thought he had been injured and could be absent from the track for a long time. But fortunately, Soufiane El Bakkali only had a few stitches at the Montsouris hospital (Paris), on his left hand (open on 4 cm) but also on a finger of his right hand, reports l’Equipe.
He received blows to the back and neck during the fall. "We feared the worst for his knee but it’s just a shock. We got away with it. This does not yet call into question the end of his season. He was supposed to run a 3,000m on September 5 in Chorzow (Poland) and the Diamond League final in Zurich on September 9. We’ll see how it evolves in the coming days," said his manager Pascal Bureaux.
