After putting an end to the Kenyan hegemony in the 3,000m steeplechase, Moroccan Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali wants to achieve one last feat: beat the Kenyans on their own turf by participating in the Nairobi meeting.
This is the last challenge the Moroccan athlete intends to take on before taking a well-deserved vacation. The season has been quite eventful for Soufiane El Bakkali who has participated in many competitions, going as far as breaking his own record. So to cap off this season in style, the Olympic champion has responded to the invitation addressed to him by the Kenyan Athletics Federation, insisting on having him on the starting line of the 3,000m steeplechase. The competition will take place next Saturday with the effective presence of Soufiane El Bakkali, reports the daily Assabah.
The Moroccan athlete wants to establish his supremacy in the 3,000m steeplechase and the Nairobi meeting seems to be a well-suited opportunity. The challenge is daunting and the Moroccan will have to fight against the Kenyans on their home turf. In order to prepare properly and get used to the Kenyan climate characterized by high heat and increased humidity, Soufiane El Bakkali has been there for several days.
According to the newspaper, after this event, the Moroccan athlete will have to rest for a month before facing the World Championships and the Diamond League.
