Nvidia confirms two major artificial intelligence projects in Morocco, including one worth $1.2 billion

The American manufacturer presents these two projects in an article published on September 21. The first is being developed by Cassava Technologies, its first cloud partner in Africa.

Following South Africa, Cassava plans to deploy computing capacity using Nvidia technologies in Morocco, Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria. The investment could reach $720 million for this African program as a whole.

Nvidia specifies neither the location, nor the capacity, nor the timetable for the Moroccan site. Bladi had already reported on the Kingdom’s integration into this African network.

This infrastructure is intended to enable companies and developers to train and operate their artificial intelligence models on servers installed in Africa.

A 500-megawatt project near Casablanca

The second project is the Nexus AI Factory, announced in April at Gitex Africa in Marrakech. It is to be built near Casablanca in collaboration with the Moroccan ministries responsible for Digital Transition and Investment, as well as the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Investments and Exports.

Nvidia puts its initial investment at $1.2 billion. The site is expected to reach a capacity of 500 megawatts and use Blackwell processors. Its renewable energy supply is to be provided by TAQA Morocco.

The $1.2 billion does not constitute a direct investment by Nvidia. This sum corresponds to the initial budget of the Nexus AI Factory, to which the American group is to provide its technology.

The two projects are therefore distinct. Cassava is preparing a network of AI factories in five African countries, including Morocco, while Nexus is to build a 500-megawatt infrastructure near Casablanca based on Nvidia processors.
