Mystery above Tangier: an unknown helicopter tracked by the authorities
The security services in the Tangier region are currently conducting in-depth investigations following the detection of an unidentified aircraft. The aircraft, a helicopter, entered Moroccan airspace without authorization for two consecutive days, raising suspicions of a drug trafficking attempt.
The alert was raised after the surveillance radars detected the aircraft coming from the Mediterranean coast. According to the available data, the helicopter deliberately reduced its altitude over the province to avoid detection, disappearing from the radar screens in the rural area of the Arous Chamal province.
Following this incident, the public prosecutor ordered the opening of a judicial investigation. A joint commission, composed of various security services, went to the field to inspect an area located between the prefecture of Tangier-Assilah and the province of Fahs-Anjra. The search is particularly focused on the localities of Chjirat and Beni Ouassine, where a potential landing is suspected.
The authorities have questioned several inhabitants of the surrounding douars to collect any possible testimonies. In parallel with the ground searches, the investigators are relying on technical means: the analysis of telecommunication and Internet networks is underway to try to trace the movements of the aircraft and identify the implications of this intrusion, which seems to have failed in its presumed objective.
