MRE, attention, pas de bateau Tarifa – Tanger Ville
The fast maritime connections between the Spanish port of Tarifa and Tangier are suspended this Thursday and Friday due to Storm Nils. The port authorities recommend that travelers redirect to Algeciras, where traffic remains maintained.
The port of Tarifa has closed its connection with the city of the strait this Thursday, February 12th. While the first morning rotation at 9:00 am could be ensured, all other departures of the day were canceled by the local port authorities. This abrupt interruption is the direct consequence of the poor navigation conditions caused by the passage of Storm "Nils" over the south of the Iberian Peninsula.
The disturbances should persist, making the crossing impossible for the day of Friday. The National Meteorological Agency forecasts a deterioration of the atmospheric situation with the arrival of thunderstorms and a significant strengthening of westerly winds. Gusts of around 40 km/h are expected in the Strait area, forcing high-speed vessels to remain at the quay.
Faced with this paralysis in Tarifa, travelers, particularly Moroccans residing abroad, are invited to modify their itinerary to reach the Kingdom. The neighboring port of Algeciras is currently operating normally and maintains all of its scheduled connections to Tanger-Med, offering the only reliable alternative to cross the Mediterranean during this untimely episode.
