Mother Sentenced to 5 Years for Drowning and Burying Son in Morocco

The case dates back to last May, when a woman had caused the death of her son by pushing him into the bathtub of her bathroom, before burying him on the outskirts of the road connecting Tetouan to Tangier.
The 42-year-old woman was sentenced, on Thursday, December 12, by the Tangier Court of Appeal to 5 years in prison, for voluntary homicide without premeditation.
On May 29, following a missing person report filed by the victim’s father, the preliminary investigation, launched by the Tangier prefectural service, led to the recovery of the body in an advanced state of decomposition.
According to the statements of the accused, the child had succumbed to serious injuries following a fall in the bathroom. He would have been pushed by his mother, who had tried to conceal the body by burying it in a deserted area.
Before the magistrates, the mother stated that she is undergoing psychotherapy sessions due to chronic psychological disorders, specifying that she is "incapable of harming her offspring".
