Moroccan Mother Pleads with King Mohammed VI for Son’s Release After Facebook Post Conviction

The mother of the student sentenced to 3 years in prison for a Facebook post has appealed to King Mohammed VI, begging him to release her son.
Deploring the irresponsible act of her son Ayoub, who is pursuing his studies in 1st year of high school, the mother has implored the Sovereign to show compassion towards her family who are going through great sadness.
She was keen to specify that her husband, a retiree of the Royal Armed Forces, had also addressed a request for royal pardon to the Monarch.
The case dates back to December 3, when the 18-year-old boy was placed in pre-trial detention, before being sentenced to a 3-year prison term on the 17th of the same month, with a fine of 5,000 dirhams.
Several Internet users have launched a petition for the release of young Ayoub, whose future is compromised, going from the school benches to a prison cell.
