Moroccan Court Sentences Man to 20 Years for Violent Attack on German Tourist

A young man, prosecuted for attempted premeditated homicide, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The sentence was handed down on Tuesday, November 26 by the criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tangier.
Last June, the 29-year-old individual had attacked a German tourist while she was jogging near the Ibn Batouta Sports Complex. The victim, in her fifties, escaped with serious neck injuries.
The fugitive’s chase had lasted less than 24 hours. The elements of the investigation, opened by the prefectural service of the judicial police, later confirmed the attempted premeditated homicide.
During the trial, the defense of the accused had pleaded extenuating circumstances under the cover of psychiatric disorders, but the request had been rejected by the Court, which retained the attempted premeditated homicide.
