Morocco Welcomes First 15,000 Conscripts as Mandatory Military Service Begins

The first group of young people subject to military service will be welcomed into the barracks starting August 10. Before this deadline, they are busy completing the last formalities.
In total, 15,000 conscripts will be in their assigned locations as of August 10. Beforehand, they will undergo a medical examination and then take an oral exam, before joining their respective posts, reports the daily Al Massae, cited by le360.ma.
The conscripts are already receiving their summons in groups. To this end, the general staff services have transmitted the lists of conscripts to the relevant services in the prefectures and provinces. After this step, the Royal Gendarmerie received the individual summons forms made up and printed at the provincial and prefectural levels. It then transmitted them to the conscripts concerned, with a requisition ticket to allow them to go to their place of assignment, either by train or by bus.
According to the summons sent to the conscripts living in the Casablanca-Settat region, details the newspaper Al Massae, they are called to join the barracks and military centers under the 5th Light Intervention Battalion, in Casablanca.
Once in the barracks, the conscripts will undergo training and military exercises for a period of 12 months, for the 2019-2020 period. Moreover, notes Al Massae, those conscripts in whom technical or professional skills are detected will be made available to public administrations to carry out work of general interest.
According to the report of the Ministry of the Interior, 133,820 people, including 13,614 young women (or 10.17%), had filled out the census form relating to military service. In the end, 15,000 people, instead of the initially planned 10,000, will be selected.
