Morocco Launches Mandatory Military Service for 2019-2020 Conscripts
From Monday, August 19, 2019 until August 31, the 2019-2020 conscripts will be enrolled. The service itself is scheduled to start on September 1, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.
This mobilization, according to the same communiqué reported by the MAP, is an obligation for the conscripts who must go to the military units mentioned on their summons and on the date specified on it.
The same source also specifies that, for this purpose, 17 military units spread throughout the national territory have been mobilized to welcome the conscripts and to transfer them by military buses to the training centers. These are located in the cities of Larache, Al Hoceima, Bouarfa, Dakhla, Laâyoune, Meknès, Agadir, Casablanca, Taza, Oujda, Errachidia, Kénitra, Ouarzazate, Mediouna, Tadla and Guelmim.
Once on the ground, specialized commissions are instructed to process their files and to establish a definitive list of the 15,000 conscripts of this year out of the 25,000 candidates summoned for the last selection. Among the conscripts, there are 13,614 young women who have voluntarily filled out the form, or 10.17% of the candidates.
Since Monday, June 17, the regional commissions had met to establish the list of registered persons entitled to military service out of the 133,820 initial candidates. The census operation for military service, for its part, took place from April 9 to June 7, 2019. It is scheduled to start on September 1 next.
