Morocco: Violent end of the run for a drug lord after a 250 km chase

The mad chase ended at a gendarmerie roadblock at the entrance of Tiddas, on the outskirts of Rabat. A major drug lord, originally from the mountains of Ouezzane, was apprehended on Wednesday after evading law enforcement for over 250 kilometers, turning regional roads into a battlefield.

The arrest puts an end to a sequence of rare violence. Before being neutralized near the capital, the fugitives opened fire with a shotgun on their pursuers. These shots caused the overturning of two law enforcement vehicles and injured several agents, particularly on the axis leading to Moulay Bouazza, in the province of Khénifra, reports Assabah. It was during this confusion that one of the convoy’s cars, a Hyundai transporting a cargo of cocaine, managed to disappear from the radar.

This chase had begun much earlier in the afternoon in Beni Mellal. Based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the regional brigade had set up an ambush to intercept an imminent delivery. Scenting the trap, the gang forced its way through, triggering an immediate pursuit towards Fkih Ben Salah.

The criminal convoy then crossed several localities, from Oulad Azzouz to the outskirts of Khouribga and Oued Zem, foiling successive interception devices until the general alert was triggered in Khemisset. The main suspect now faces serious charges, including drug trafficking and attempted murder of officials in the performance of their duties.
