Morocco Unveils Three-Pronged Strategy to Combat COVID-19 Spread

To better fight the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, Morocco has adopted a national strategy based on three essential aspects. These are anticipation in planning, precision in installation and realism in implementation.

On the occasion of the opening by videoconference of the work of the 38th session of the Arab Ministerial Council, on Thursday, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, indicated that "Morocco, since the registration of the first case of Covid-19 on March 2, 2020, has taken a set of measures and decisions aimed at fighting the spread of this pandemic and mitigating its repercussions on citizens, including the declaration of the state of health emergency by virtue of the decree-law of March 20, 2020." Thus, Morocco’s strategy has been established mainly on the security level, in order to advocate respect for the measures put in place.

"On the health aspect, special provisions for the state of health emergency have been enacted as a legal framework that allows the government to frame the necessary measures to deal with ’any health threat’," he added, stressing that on the socio-economic aspect, many measures have been put in place to reduce the consequences of the health crisis, to ensure the continuity of social life, to relaunch the Moroccan economy, to support employment... In addition, "to strengthen communication mechanisms and channels, several digital platforms have emerged to detect and support cases affected by Covid-19, as well as to make available to the national and international public opinion a complete daily report, in accordance with WHO standards," he specified.

Addressing the important role of cybersecurity and the need to protect it against fake news, the minister stressed the need to remain vigilant in order to better solve known security challenges, including the fight against terrorism and organized crime, the fight against illegal immigration and others. The Arab Ministerial Council represents the ideal framework for the study and development of appropriate solutions in resolving common challenges. In this sense, "the Council has adopted a set of security programs of the utmost importance, some of which have been approved," concluded the Moroccan Minister of the Interior.
