Morocco Extends COVID-19 State of Emergency and Night Curfew Through May 10

The Council of Government, meeting this Thursday in Rabat, decided to maintain the state of health emergency throughout the national territory until May 10, 2021. This decision was taken as part of the efforts to fight against the spread of the pandemic of the new coronavirus.
The maintenance of the state of health emergency comes in addition to the ban on night travel nationwide from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., starting from the 1st of Ramadan 1442 of the Hegira, except for exceptional cases. In a statement, the government indicated that these decisions were taken on the basis of the recommendations of the Scientific and Technical Commission, which insisted on the need to continue the implementation of the necessary measures to fight against the spread of Covid-19, especially with the appearance of new variants in the country.
These decisions also contribute to the need to preserve the health of citizens so that the month of Ramadan takes place under good conditions, "in keeping with its great religious symbolism", the statement said.
