Morocco Extends COVID-19 State of Emergency Until September 10

The Council of Government, meeting on Tuesday in Rabat, decided to extend the state of health emergency throughout the national territory until September 10, 2021, as part of efforts to combat the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Thus, the Council approved draft decree no. 2.21.590 amending decree no. 2.21.507 relating to the extension of the duration of the state of health emergency throughout the national territory to deal with the spread of the new coronavirus, presented by the Minister of the Interior, according to a press release issued after the Council meeting.
This draft decree grants the Minister of the Interior the power to take all necessary measures in relation to the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the country.
"In order for the public authorities to continue to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the measures and provisions taken to deal with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, this draft decree aims to extend the effective date of the state of health emergency throughout the national territory from Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 6 p.m. to Friday, September 10, 2021 at 6 p.m.," the press release states.
With more than 9,428 new cases this Wednesday, July 28, the epidemiological situation is causing concern in medical circles. The latest official report counts a total of 597,876 cases of contamination and 9,665 deaths, including 29 just for this Wednesday.
