Morocco’s U23 Team Eliminated from AFCON 2019 Despite Win Over DRC

There will ultimately be no Africa Cup of Nations this year for the Atlas Cubs, nor the Olympics next year, despite their 1-0 victory yesterday over the team from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Moroccan players won thanks to the penalty converted in the first half by Soufiane Kiyine. Four days earlier, they had suffered a resounding 2-0 defeat in Kinshasa, a match in which they delivered a more than mediocre performance.
The protégés of Marc Wotte are therefore eliminated through the back door while the Congolese continue their adventure in the Africa Cup of Nations, and it is not yet known whether the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) will renew its trust in the Dutch coach who has been in office since 2015.
Despite this elimination, the FRMF has filed an appeal against the DRC, accusing it of fielding the player Arsène Zola who has exceeded the age of 23. It remains to be seen whether CAF will take into account the appeal filed by the Moroccans and reset the counter to zero for the DRC.
