Morocco: two tourists, a British and an American, die after a truck accident

The British septuagenarian, described as a passionate traveler, was rushed to intensive care in a Moroccan coastal town, where he succumbed to his injuries on November 13. The American tourist, who was traveling with his wife, was also seriously injured in the impact. He died on November 21 while on board an air ambulance being repatriated to the United States, reports The Sun.

A 23-week journey interrupted by the tragedy

This trip, organized by the Leeds-based company Oasis Overland, was supposed to connect Fez to Cape Town, South Africa, over a period of 23 weeks at a cost of around £10,000. According to the reports, the metal roof of the truck twisted and collapsed over the 24 seats after hitting the overhanging heavy branches.

A second identical vehicle, which was about six miles ahead of the convoy, had to turn back to assist the victims. Witnesses described a difficult scene, with passengers found crushed by the roof with no possible escape, despite the rescue teams’ efforts to save lives.
