Morocco Tops French Summer Travel Trends as 3 Cities Make Most-Wanted List

Morocco as a destination is still booming in France. Three Moroccan cities are among the most sought-after destinations by French tourists this summer.
Many French people will be going on vacation this summer. In total, 61% of French people intend to go on vacation this summer, which is 1 percentage point more than last summer, reveals an OpinionWay survey for the travel comparison site Liligo conducted from April 23 to 24, 2025, on a sample of 1,005 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
Unlike last year, French people plan to spend less during the summer holidays. This year, they will spend an average of 1,143 euros per person on this expense item, which is 74 euros less compared to last summer, specifies the OpinionWay institute. This decrease in budget can be partly explained by inflation and price increases, "two criteria that weigh on the summer bookings of many French people (63%)."
Where do French people plan to spend their summer holidays? According to Liligo, 14% of searches for this summer are for destinations in France. 67% of people who responded to the survey conducted with Opinionway intend to travel within France, which is 6% more than last year, while only 45% will go abroad, compared to 50% last summer. Only 37% say they will travel to Europe, compared to 44% in summer 2024.
With Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe (3rd), Ajaccio in Corsica (7th), and Fort-de-France in Martinique (10th), France dominates the ranking of the 10 most searched destinations by French people this summer. Marrakech maintains its 9th place. Other Moroccan cities such as Essaouira (+147% in searches) or Fez (+64%) are also very popular in France. In total, 23% of searches for this summer are for Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, or Egypt, it is specified.
