Tunis Eclipses Marrakech: Mediterranean Shift in French Summer Travel

After three years of domination, Marrakech has fallen from first place to second place in the ranking of the most sought-after and preferred destinations by the French for the summer of 2025.
According to a study conducted by OpinionWay for the flight comparator Liligo, Tunis has dethroned Marrakech and has become the first destination most sought after by the French for the summer holidays of 2025. The Tunisian city owes this position to the average round-trip price of 359 €, slightly up compared to 2024 (1%). Two other sunny destinations - Marrakech (296 €) and Porto (238 €) - complete the podium. Two French cities are in the top. Ajaccio (266 €) takes 7th place while Pointe-à-Pitre (1,030 €) occupies 8th place.
The study shows that 61% of the French have traveled during the summer, a proportion up compared to 2024, despite a lower budget. This drop in the budget has thus pushed the majority of French vacationers to favor sunny destinations, with seven of the ten most sought-after cities located around the Mediterranean basin.
"Travelers are primarily heading to destinations that are easily accessible from mainland France and often less expensive. By dethroning Marrakech, Tunis has achieved a small feat. It is still a beautiful summer season for Europe and the Mediterranean, which continues to dominate the ranking in number," comments Guillaume Rostand, spokesperson for Liligo.
