Morocco Tightens Security Measures as Health Emergency and Curfew Continue

New alert within the national security services. Through a note sent to the regional and provincial services, the DGSN issued a new directive for the proper and strict application of the law on the health emergency and the strengthening of patrols.

The note from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) calls on all security services to incorporate the new curfew dates into all their field security work plans. This will involve the DGSN services taking into account all the surveillance points on the roads or the control and monitoring of the closing hours specified in the administrative plan. Security patrols will have to be strengthened to fight crime and thus reinforce the feeling of security, recommends the police hierarchy.

More concretely, the new directive invites the security services to adapt the police work plans with the new schedules in order to ensure the protection and security of people and property. This reorganization should not lead to any modification as regards the application of the provisions of the law on the state of health emergency, in particular, the imposition of the wearing of protective masks and the respect of social distancing, specified the note.

On May 21, the Moroccan government revised the curfew time, setting it from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. It also decided that shops, restaurants and cafes will close at 11 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
