Divorce Rates Soar in Tangier: 10,000 Cases Recorded in 2023

Divorce cases have increased in Tangier in 2023. In total, 10,000 divorces were pronounced by the court of first instance of the city during this year.
Of the 10,000 divorce cases recorded in 2023, nearly 6,500 were settled amicably, according to data from the family judge of the Tangier court of first instance. Cases of divorce for discord (35,000) were more noted among older couples.
Many couples have given up on divorce after meeting the family judge who drew their attention to the consequences of divorce on the family and their children on the one hand, and on society in general.
To address this alarming increase in divorce cases in the city, civil society organizations are calling for intensive awareness-raising campaigns among populations to emphasize the importance of marriage and family.
