Moroccan Judge Arrested in Laâyoune for Alleged 130,000 Dirham Bribe

A judge from the court of first instance of Laâyoune, in southern Morocco, was arrested in flagrante delicto of receiving a bribe of 130,000 dirhams.
The Attorney General at the Laâyoune Court of Appeal received a complaint against the judge serving at the Laâyoune court of first instance. Following this complaint, the judge was dismissed from his duties and a sum of 130,000 dirhams was found at his home.
The bribe would have been paid by a family seeking to obtain the release of one of its members currently incarcerated. The judge was taken into custody under the supervision of the Laâyoune public prosecutor’s office, in accordance with the procedure in force.
