Morocco in Talks for Major Railway Factory, Promising 1,000 New Jobs

Morocco is in discussion with a railway equipment manufacturing company for the implementation of a project that will employ 1,000 people.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, who highlighted, on Monday at the House of Representatives, the efforts made by the government to accelerate Moroccan industry.

On this occasion, the minister provided an overview of the many ongoing projects to promote industrial acceleration. The implementation of his plan has made it possible to exceed the target set for 2020 in terms of employment, with the creation of 659,740 jobs between 2014 and 2021, he stressed, displaying the figures by sector.

Thus, in the automotive sector, the initial objective of creating 90,000 jobs in this sector has been exceeded, with the figures reaching 161,599 people in 2022. For their part, total exports amounted to more than 72 billion dirhams in 2020.

In the aerospace industries, Morocco has created 11,383 jobs between 2014 and 2020. As for the maritime industries, the same source specified that 3 investment agreements have been signed for a total envelope of 39.68 million dirhams aimed at creating 250 direct jobs in the sector.

In parallel, three major projects aimed at creating 10,270 direct jobs have been identified and supported with a total investment of around 8.8 billion dirhams, he continued. The industrial acceleration scheme has led to the creation of 123,699 jobs in the textile and leather industry, or 91% of the target set.
