Morocco Launches Industrial Sovereignty Plan to Boost Domestic Manufacturing

Morocco wants to reduce its dependence on external shocks by strengthening its industrial sovereignty. Several projects are being launched in this direction, with a view to promoting "Made in Morocco".
This roadmap aims to accelerate industrial development in order to increase job creation, increase added value, revive and support the Moroccan industrial sector impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, said the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.
In this context, an industrial projects bank has been set up, allowing the expansion of the base of industrial activities in the different regions of the Kingdom, through the monitoring of project leaders and the encouragement to invest in all industrial zones.
To this end, Mezzour indicates that a working group in charge of achieving industrial sovereignty has been set up around the strengthening of national sovereignty and the encouragement of the "Made in Morocco" strategy.
In total, 918 projects have been approved with 90% national capital, representing the possibility of replacing imports by 51.3 billion dirhams, which will compensate for imports representing 157% of the 34 billion dirhams target, he specified, adding that this plan provides for the creation of 196,767 jobs, including about 78,707 direct jobs, and the achievement of about 69% of industrial sovereignty.
