Morocco Stunned by Benin in AFCON Round of 16, Coach Renard’s Future in Doubt

The elimination of the Moroccan football team, on this Friday, July 5, 2019 evening, in the round of 16 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) by the Benin team, considered however very easy, probably marks the end of the contract of the French coach, Hervé Renard, at the head of the "Atlas Lions".
"Humiliation". This is the word that comes up tonight on social networks after the end of the African adventure of the Moroccan football team and, with its elimination, on penalties, by the Benin team, which, let us remember, is the first qualification for the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
The French coach did not succeed in creating the feat of a third African title, after those won with Ivory Coast and Zambia, despite the three victories in the first round. It was felt that the Moroccan team had much less bite in recent months. The alert had nevertheless been given by the very poor friendly matches played a few days before the CAN.
In addition to the French coach, other players will announce the end of their international careers. This is already the case for Karim Al Ahmadi who has made it known in the press a few days ago. It will probably also be the case for Medhi Benatia but also for the excellent Mbark Boussoufa and perhaps even for Nordin Amrabat. Other players will likely see their role diminished within the team, in particular Hakim Ziyech who, in the eyes of the specialists, completely missed the competition.
The next few days will be very lively within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the national football team.
