Morocco Set to Part Ways with Coach Hervé Renard After Early AFCON Exit

The poor performance of the "Atlas Lions", who were eliminated in the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Egypt, seems to have definitively sealed the future of Hervé Renard as head of the Moroccan national team. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is said to have planned a meeting this week to make his departure official.
The early elimination of the "Atlas Lions" at the 2019 CAN in Egypt will likely cost the French coach, Hervé Renard, his position. According to the daily Al Massae of Monday, July 8, 2019, "following the humiliation of Morocco against Benin and its premature exit from the CAN, the president of the FRMF met in Cairo with coach Hervé Renard to try to understand the reasons for this defeat," relays Al Massae.
According to the same media, the termination of Renard’s contract, which runs until 2022, will certainly take place during a second meeting scheduled for the beginning of this week. The coach did not achieve the FRMF’s objective of leading the "Atlas Lions" to the CAN final, even though the Federation provided him with all the necessary means, regrets Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the FRMF.
Overall, Hervé Renard’s record at the head of the Moroccan national team is not very satisfactory. Indeed, while the Frenchman managed to qualify the "Atlas Lions" for the World Cup in Russia, he will have failed, twice, to "lead Morocco to the continental glory that is the CAN," notes the same source.
Furthermore, regarding the future of the players, the newspaper foresees the departure of several key players, such as M’Barek Boussoufa. Departures yes, but who will replace them?
