Morocco Streamlines Health Insurance Access, Expands Coverage for Cancer and Specialty Care

Since August 13, the National Fund for Social Welfare Organizations (CNOPS) has simplified compulsory health insurance procedures and improved access to benefits for policyholders.

No more prior approval from CNOPS to benefit from the services of oncology centers and private clinics. Access to compulsory health insurance benefits is easier for policyholders. This is a decision by the public authorities to fight the coronavirus and strengthen preventive measures.

Thus, oncology centers and private clinics are now authorized to treat policyholders in the fields of cardiology, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, ENT, and surgery. Those affected by a long-term and costly condition, chemotherapy cases, and all emergency admissions. These centers are authorized to bill their services directly to CNOPS and temporarily waive the procedure for requesting coverage for all services provided by these establishments, with the exception of cesarean delivery. CNOPS, under the new measures, will organize the a posteriori medical control of oncology files. This measure takes effect from August 12 to September 15, 2020.
